Self Development – Woman of Substance International https://iamawomanofsubstance.org Tue, 20 Jan 2026 12:58:17 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.9.1 Recognizing Self-Sabotage: Patterns That Limit Growth https://iamawomanofsubstance.org/recognizing-self-sabotage-patterns-that-limit-growth/ https://iamawomanofsubstance.org/recognizing-self-sabotage-patterns-that-limit-growth/#respond Tue, 20 Jan 2026 12:11:20 +0000 https://iamawomanofsubstance.org/?p=654 Over the past weekend, during a reflective leadership and personal growth session, a subtle but impactful pattern surfaced—one that many people experience without realizing it: self-sabotage.

Self-sabotage occurs when individuals unintentionally act in ways that hinder their own progress, growth, or effectiveness, even while genuinely desiring positive change. It often shows up when fear, insecurity, limiting beliefs, or unresolved experiences quietly influence decisions—leading to delay, avoidance, disengagement, or premature quitting.

What Self-Sabotage Often Looks Like

  • Delaying action despite clarity or readiness – procrastination.
  • Avoiding opportunities that require growth or visibility
  • Waiting for “perfect” conditions before moving forward
  • Undermining one’s own confidence through negative self-talk
  • Overcommitting to others while neglecting personal well-being
  • Withdrawing instead of seeking support or accountability
  • Repeating familiar but unproductive patterns
  • Disguising avoidance as patience, caution, or over-analysis
  • Abandoning initiatives at the first sign of resistance
  • Resisting feedback that could lead to growth

Reflection Questions

Use these questions to pause, reflect, and gain clarity:

  • Where might I be delaying or avoiding necessary action?
  • What belief or fear could be influencing my current decisions?
  • What pattern seems to repeat despite my desire for change?
  • What would intentional, courageous action look like right now?
  • Who or what can support me in staying accountable to this commitment?

A Closing Reflection

Progress often requires more than motivation—it requires awareness. When we identify and address self-sabotaging patterns, we create space for clarity, alignment, and forward movement. Growth begins when we choose intention over avoidance and courage over comfort.

Personal Commitment

  • I commit to acting with clarity and purpose.
  • I choose growth over fear and alignment over avoidance.
  • I move forward with intention, awareness, and confidence.
“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” James 1:22 (NIV)

Stay In Goshen https://iamawomanofsubstance.org/stay-in-goshen/ Tue, 15 Jul 2025 19:45:29 +0000 https://iamawomanofsubstance.org/?p=583 Everything God does operates within the boundaries of times and seasons. His purposes are not random—they are precise, intentional, and prophetic. Because you and I are woven into His eternal plan, our lives and experiences are also governed by divine timing.

Given the current social and political climate in our nation, we must ask ourselves:
What time is it? What season are we in? Where do I fit into this season?
And most importantly—what is God saying?

These are not days to be spiritually passive. These are days to awaken our spiritual senses—to discern the voice of the Spirit clearly and act accordingly.

I believe we are in a:

  • season of divine separation—God is distinguishing those who are His.
  • A season of restoration, where what was lost is being recovered.
  • A season of judgment, where systems and structures are being shaken.
  • And a season of glory and power, where the majesty and might of our God will be openly revealed.

And because God cannot lie and His Word is forever settled, I believe He is speaking clearly to His children in this hour:

“Go to Goshen—and remain there.”

Goshen is more than a place; it is a spiritual position—a realm of divine preservation, favor, and distinction. To remain in Goshen is to remain in alignment, in obedience, and under covering.

The idea of “Goshen” represents a divine exemption, preservation, and favor in the midst of widespread turmoil. In the Bible, Goshen was the place where the Israelites lived—a land of covering and distinction, even as Egypt was being judged.

What is “Goshen” Symbolically?

In Exodus 8:22-23, God said:

“…I will set apart the land of Goshen, where my people live, so that no swarms of flies will be there… I will make a distinction between my people and your people.”]}"

This pattern continued during the plagues—darkness in Egypt, but light in Goshen (Exodus 10:23); death in Egypt, but life in Israel’s camp (Exodus 12).

Goshen symbolizes:
• Divine protection
• Supernatural provision
• Clear distinction and identity
• Peace in the midst of judgment

How Can Believers Experience “Goshen” Today?

1. By Staying in Covenant Relationship with God

Psalm 91:1 — “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”

Just like the Israelites remained in covenant, today’s Goshen begins with:
• Walking in alignment with God’s Word.
• Living under the authority of His Lordship.
• Living a consecrated, obedient life.

Covenant unlocks covering.

2. By Living with Spiritual Sensitivity and Obedience

Isaiah 30:21 — “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’”

In chaotic times, divine instructions become life-saving. Goshen-like experiences are unlocked by:
• Hearing God in the storm.
• Obeying His nudges and warnings.
• Being sensitive to seasons and divine timings.

Your spiritual antenna must be tuned to Heaven’s frequency.

By Practicing Kingdom Economy and Stewardship

Genesis 47:27 — “Now the Israelites settled in Egypt in the region of Goshen. They acquired property there and were fruitful and increased greatly in number.”

Despite famine in Egypt, the Israelites thrived:
• Tithing, sowing, and giving place you in God’s supernatural economy.
• Practicing wisdom and diligence invites favor.
• God still causes His people to flourish in famine (Psalm 37:19).

Your obedience determines your exemption.

By Taking Refuge in Community and Identity

Exodus 12:3 — The Israelites were to gather in homes and apply the blood of the lamb. It was a collective instruction.

Goshen wasn’t experienced in isolation:
• Believers must remain in community (church, family, faith circles).
• There’s power in corporate obedience, prayer, and agreement.
• Your spiritual identity must be firmly rooted.

Community multiplies preservation.

By Pleading the Blood of Jesus

Just as the blood on the doorposts exempted Israel from death (Exodus 12:13), today:
• The blood of Jesus marks us for exemption.
• It is your spiritual insurance in times of plague, pestilence, or peril.

The blood still speaks—over your health, home, children, and finances.

Final Reflection:

In today’s climate—whether it’s economic downturns, political upheaval, violence, or societal confusion—the believer can live in a spiritual Goshen. Not necessarily by physical location, but by positioning in Christ.

John 16:33 — “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

To be concluded tomorrow

Wellness Wednesday: Faith Based Care https://iamawomanofsubstance.org/wellness-wednesday-faith-based-care/ Wed, 02 Apr 2025 23:02:26 +0000 https://iamawomanofsubstance.org/?p=494 Hello my beautiful ladies!

The month of April took off with Thanksgiving, it will progressively become joyful and end in praise! Self-care is one way to make it happen. How?

Self-care isn’t just about spa days and rest—it’s about stewarding the life God has given you. When we prioritize our well-being, we position ourselves to serve, love, and grow in alignment with God’s purpose. We do so in different ways:

  1. Renew Your Mind with God’s Truth
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2)
✅ Spend time in God’s Word daily.
✅Replace negative self-talk with biblical affirmations.
✅ Protect your mental space by setting healthy boundaries.
  2. Care for Your Body—God’s Temple 💪🏽🍎
“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you?” (1 Corinthians 6:19)
✅ Nourish yourself with healthy food and hydration.
✅ Move your body—exercise, stretch, or take a walk.
✅ Prioritize rest and quality sleep.
  3. Protect Your Peace & Emotional Well-Being 🕊💙
“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
✅ Take time for quiet prayer and reflection.
✅ Let go of grudges—practice forgiveness and grace.
✅ Step away from negativity and focus on what is life-giving.
  4. Sabbath Rest & Spiritual Replenishment ⏳🙏
“Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)
✅ Set aside time to disconnect from distractions.
✅ Engage in activities that bring joy—worship, journaling, nature walks.
✅ Remember: Rest is not laziness; it’s obedience!
  5. Serve from a Place of Wholeness❤🙌🏽
“Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Mark 12:31)
✅ You can’t pour from an empty cup—care for yourself first.
✅ Let God’s love fill you, so you can love others fully.
✅ Self-care is not selfish; it equips you to be a vessel of God’s grace.

This week, commit to self-care as an act of faith. What step will you take today to nurture your mind, body, and spirit? Drop a “💛” in the comments if you’re choosing wholeness!

Embracing Self-Care: Loving your Body https://iamawomanofsubstance.org/embracing-self-care-loving-your-body/ Thu, 27 Mar 2025 09:30:53 +0000 https://iamawomanofsubstance.org/?p=485 Today is our Wellness Wednesday and I am dwelling on: “Embracing Self-Care: Loving your Body.”

As women, we often prioritize others’ needs over our own. But it’s time to shift that focus! Self-care is not selfish; it’s essential. There are different ways to nurture the totality of ourselves: spirit, soul and body. However, today I am focusing on “body love”.

Body love is the practice of accepting, appreciating, and caring for your physical body, regardless of its shape, size, or appearance. It’s about cultivating a positive and compassionate relationship with your body.

Why is Body Love Important?

In today’s society, we’re Not often bombarded with unrealistic beauty standards and negative body image messages. This can lead to body dissatisfaction, low self-esteem, and even mental health issues.

Practicing body love helps to:

  1. Challenge negative self-talk: By focusing on your body’s strengths and abilities, you can overcome critical inner voices.
  2. Self-care routines: Engage in activities that nourish your body, like taking a relaxing bath, getting a massage, or practicing yoga.
  3. Body gratitude: Reflect on the things your body can do, like walking, running, or dancing.
  4. Mindful movement: Engage in physical activities that bring you joy, without focusing on weight loss or appearance.
  5. Diverse representation: Surround yourself with diverse and inclusive representations of bodies, challenging traditional beauty standards.

Remember, body love is a journey, and it’s okay to take it one step at a time. How about giving yourself a treat this upcoming weekend?

You can schedule an appointment for a facial spa, body massage , pedicure and or manicure; you can date yourself- go out on a dinner date with yourself! The list of what you can do to love yourself is endless.

You don’t have to wait for anyone to show you love, love yourself. . . If you don’t say l am, no one will say to you thou art!

For more inspirations and support in improving your self worth, self confidence, self identity and living authentically, why not dm me? I love to do just that!

Are you writing it down? https://iamawomanofsubstance.org/are-you-writing-it-down/ Fri, 07 Mar 2025 10:08:20 +0000 https://iamawomanofsubstance.org/?p=481

“Then the Lord said to me, “Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others. This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.” ‬‬

‭‭Habakkuk‬ ‭2‬:‭2‬-‭3‬ ‭NLT

I am often surprised to observe that in the church a lot of believers merely listen to sermons, many don’t write down key points either for future reference or to be reminded of what they heard and put them into practice. For me as a teacher, trainer, coach and a pastor, it is highly discouraging! Why is writing down key points in any occasion, not only in church gatherings, important? Why for instance do lawyers write down contracts and agreements and go to the extent of getting them notorized? Why? This is the focus of my post this morning. . . .

From a biblical perspective, writing things down is important for several key reasons:

1. Preserving God’s Instructions
• In Exodus 17:14, God commands Moses: “Write this as a memorial in a book and recite it in the ears of Joshua.”
• This shows that writing serves as a way to preserve God’s words and instructions for future generations.

 2. Recording God’s Promises and Faithfulness
• In Habakkuk 2:2, God tells the prophet: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.”
• Writing helps ensure that God’s vision and promises are clear and accessible to those who need guidance.

 3. Aiding Remembrance and Teaching
• Deuteronomy 6:6-9 instructs the Israelites to write God’s commandments on their hearts, doorposts, and gates so they wouldn’t forget His laws.
• Writing down biblical principles helps individuals and families stay anchored in truth.

 4. Providing Testimony for Future Generations
• Many Psalms and historical books of the Bible serve as written records of God’s faithfulness.
• Psalm 102:18 says, “Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the Lord.”
• Written records serve as testimonies for future believers.

 5. Clarifying and Strengthening Understanding
• Writing helps us process and internalize spiritual truths. • Luke 1:3-4 tells how Luke wrote his Gospel “so that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.
• Documenting revelations, teachings, and experiences strengthens personal faith and provides clarity.

 6. Encouraging and Strengthening Others
• Paul’s letters (Epistles) were written to instruct, correct, and encourage the early church.
• Romans 15:4 says, “For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

 7. Keeping a Record of God’s Personal Guidance
• Many people in the Bible wrote down what God revealed to them personally.
• Jeremiah 30:2: “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Write in a book all the words that I have spoken to you.
• Journaling or recording personal spiritual insights helps believers track their journey with God.

 8. Legal and Covenantal Purposes
• The Ten Commandments were written on stone tablets (Exodus 31:18) as a permanent legal covenant.
• In the New Testament, Christ’s sacrifice establishes a new covenant, and the written Word (Scripture) testifies to it.

 Conclusion

Writing is a biblical practice that preserves truth, strengthens faith, and provides guidance. Whether recording visions, testimonies, or personal reflections, writing helps believers stay aligned with God’s will and pass on His truth to future generations.

Let’s Talk Perseverance and Community https://iamawomanofsubstance.org/lets-talk-perseverance-and-community/ Thu, 10 Oct 2024 18:13:33 +0000 https://iamawomanofsubstance.org/?p=434 Hello, beautiful Kingdom women!

Let’s talk perseverance and Community today!

As we journey through life, our relationship with God is the foundation of our empowerment for prosperity.

Today, we’ll explore the vital roles of community, collaboration, and perseverance in receiving this empowerment, using Ruth’s inspiring story as our guide.

Let’s call it Ruth’s Journey to Prosperity.
She was a widow, stranger, and outsider, Ruth faced seemingly insurmountable challenges. Yet, through community, collaboration, and perseverance, she:

🔶Found refuge and support (Ruth 1:16-17)
🔶Gained wisdom and guidance (Ruth 2:20-23)
🔶Experienced divine provision (Ruth 2:14-16)
🔶Became a key player in the lineage of Jesus (Matthew 1:5-6)

Ruth’s story highlights the importance of community in our journey to prosperity.
Her journey into the lineage of Jesus was not without help such as Naomi’s guidance (Ruth 1:20-22), Boaz’s protection and provision (Ruth 2:8-14) and The support of the Bethlehem community (Ruth 4:11-12)

“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor.” – Ecclesiastes 4:9

Another key lesson is Ruth’s unwavering determination to persevere:

She didn’t give up in the face of adversity, She worked hard and trusted God’s provision and She remained faithful, even in uncertainty.

Deuteronomy 8:18 reminds us:
“The Lord your God gives you the power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.”

This scripture carries the endless possibilities of success we can enjoy in God if only we will be determined to walk with God. Ready to persevere where we need to and choosing to trust and work with other women.

Perseverance and building relationships can be difficult  sometimes but the Bible encourages “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” – Galatians 6:9.
