At church yesterday, during Sunday School, our teacher made reference to an article which he later shared with me. The article describes what is now known as “The Rule of Awkward Silence”. When faced with a challenging question, instead of answering immediately, the rule allows you to pause and think deeply about how you want to answer. The rule is also being embraced at business meetings where at the start of a meeting, participants take like 30 minutes to read printed memos in silence without interruption before making comments. It is claimed that the rule is being adopted by valuable business owners like Tim Cook and Jeff Bezos and they have reportedly given positive feedback.

I found the article fascinating because it collaborates how science is increasingly tracing many of their inventions or discoveries to the Bible.

The Rule of Awkward Silence is stated in James 1:19

“So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;”

‭‭James‬ ‭1:19‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

When business owners set goals for production or plans expansion into new markets, they are simply imitating an industrious God who created a complex and fruitful world. He started a farm, Eden Inc., put man on that farm and told him to work, be industrious and expand the enterprise globally. That is what Genesis 1:28 is about:

“Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:28‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The primary word which the Bible uses to define productivity is fruitfulness. The Bible will often describe a productive person as someone who bears fruit.

Fruitfulness or productivity is important, and it starts with God.

“Ephraim shall say, ‘What have I to do anymore with idols?’ I have heard and observed him. I am like a green cypress tree; Your fruit is found in Me.”

‭‭Hosea‬ ‭14:8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
